Where does MasterChef Australia 2018 winner Sashi Cheliah hit up when he's back on our shores? We find out

These days I'm busy with my pop-up restaurant that opened a week ago at HWKR Melbourne — Melbourne's newest modern Asian hawker food centre — called Gaja by Sashi. You'll find dishes such as beef rendang, Hokkien mee, and ayam masak merah (slow braised chicken in a spicy red tomato sauce). 

The greatest thing I've learnt off MasterChef Australia is that nothing is impossible! 

A hawker stall I would queue for in Singapore is the char kway teow at Margaret Drive Hawker Centre.

When I miss home, I cook tofu lemak with sambal.

My kids' favourite food in Singapore is chicken rice.

My guilty pleasure is chocolate.

My go-to supper spot in Singapore is Geylang.

For weekend brunch with friends, I pop down to The Rail Mall at Upper Bukit Timah.

The first thing I eat when I touch down in Singapore is carrot cake!

For special occasions, I eat lamb briyani.

My all-time favourite restaurant is Madras New Woodlands Vegetarian Restaurant.

I grew up eating sambar! This fiery and creamy lentil-based stew is cooked in tamarind broth and is popular in both South India and Sri Lanka.

For dining with family, Singapore chilli crab is the best.

Ingredients I can't live without... chilli and lemongrass.

The food scene in Singapore is... modern, creative, adventurous, and beautifully fusion.
