Online home bakeries that do artisanal cakes: The Better Half, Made By Min, The Whiskers and more
Made to order
If you're one of the rare few who've managed to not become a professional baker in the span of the circuit breaker, there's still a reason to rejoice. Despite all the fun that you could have had in the kitchen, some things should definitely be left to the professionals. Besides, we'd have to admit that some of our quarantine baking endeavours aren't up to scratch — especially when the occasion calls for something grand yet artisanally homemade. We've taken the liberty of scouring out these local artisanal bakers that you knead to know, stat.
The Whiskers (@thewhiskers.sg)
This is where you can have your cake and eat it too. The Whiskers is a bakeshop that's so sought after, its customised cakes are constantly sold out. What started off solely as an effort to raise funds for the owner's sporting pursuits became a standalone passion for baking and we're more than happy it did. Have a peek at their Instagram and you'll find clean, minimalist cakes that don't compromise on flavour or texture.
The Better Half (@thebetterhalfsg)
A husband-and-wife-duo have become the purveyors of honest artisan bakes, serving up sweet treats that are made from scratch. After running an online bakery for over a year, they've been able to establish a cosy coffee shop where you can enjoy their artisanal cakes and other baked goods.
Who says you can't enjoy desserts when you're vegan? Gratus is an all-vegan home bakery that debunks assumptions about vegan food lacking in something. Non-vegans have also raved about this home bakery, proving that healthy, vegan bakes are really for everyone to enjoy.
Baker Kuh Leh (@bakerkuhleh)
If you're looking for trendy, minimalist cakes that taste just as good as they look, this is where to go. They've got some interesting flavours, as well as some familiar ones such as ondeh ondeh and tropical mango, with new surprises up their sleeves every few weeks.
Made by Min (@madebymin_)
Started by Shermin, who graduated from The Culinary Institute of America in Singapore and went on to work in food establishments such as Osteria Mozza, Pantler, and Lino before starting on her own baking endeavours. Inspired by Korean and Taiwanese-style minimalist cakes with layered icings, she makes customised cakes in her own Asian flavours such as oolong, jasmine green grape and Asian pear, which happens to be a hit among her many bake sales.
