New bar alert: Origin showcases cocktails inspired by Singapore's most iconic enclaves

The best part about living in Singapore? We get easy access to the unique flavours of different cultures in this melting pot we call home. You won't have to travel very far to tuck into Sichuan delights at Chinatown before moving on to the best chapati on the streets of Little India.
The same goes for our tipples. Enter Shangri-La Hotel's newest gem, Origin Bar, located at the lobby level of their refurbished Tower Wing. Decked with colonial furniture of leather timber seats as well as chequered tabletops, the swanky spot pays tribute to our city's storied enclaves with a special cocktail menu. Led by five key districts, namely Orchard, Chinatown, Little India, Boat Quay and Marina Bay — with each cocktail percolating the individual colours, flavours and historical anecdotes pertaining to the various areas.
The man behind it is bar manager Adam Bursik, who was inspired by Singapore's illustrious history of trade. For instance, Origin (the bar's namesake cocktail), sees a spicy gin-based infusion made with sugarcane honey, nutmeg, pepper, charred pineapple and lime husk wine — transpired by Orchard Road's history of being home to pepper and nutmeg plantations.
Folks who love Asian flavours, order Safari Tea of the Chinatown lineage — a delicious concoction made out of jackfruit marmalade, bamboo, osmanthus fortified wine, citrus and Monkey Shoulder whiskey. Craving something spicy? Opt for Leaf the Curry, repping the aromatic spirit of Little India with ingredients like curry leaves, cardamom, tamarind and a splash of aged rum.
So forget Singapore Slings, you can certainly do better than that. There are better, tastier options when it comes to imbibing the unique flavours of Singapore. Origin Bar will make sure of it.
