Why JW Marriott’s upcoming food festival is where you need to be this month
Make it happen
If there's anything we're certain would be worthy of our time, it's a full-on food festival. Gourmands, clear your calendars. For the first time ever, JW Marriott Hotel Singapore South Beach will be launching a culinary fiesta, comprising of a slew of workshops, chef masterclasses and an immersive supper featuring JW Marriott chefs across Asia-Pacific. What's cool is that Singapore, now touted as a flourishing food capital, has been chosen to be the host for the hotel's inaugural event this year.
Following a Pan-Asian menu, the festival isn't just a typical food fair to get your dinner sorted out but instead, their dynamic line-up features a series of innovative activities, conceptualised around the main pillars of creativity, tradition and sustainability.
Below, we sieve out what we're most looking forward to — besides stuffing our faces.
SOUND MEETS FOOD
Look for: 'Soundbites'
Ever wondered what a restaurant's playlist could do for the food on your table? In this workshop 'Sound Bites', leading sound designer Sara Lenzi and food artist Alberto Lomas will demonstrate how sound affects the perception of taste, as they lead you through an immersive experience of taste along with your auditory senses.
ART ON A PLATE
Look for: 'The Art of Plating'
If you, like us, have been religiously following food stylist and photographer Dionna Lee on Instagram, here's your chance to score a few valuable tips from the lady herself. Lee will be covering the principles of beauty and balance when it comes to food plating and how to nail food photography before digging into your next meal.
THE WINE CLUB
Look for: 'Grape Expectations'
Get a glimpse at how intricate wine rating systems work through the experts at Treasury Wine Estates. Perfect if you need a little help differentiating the 'outstanding' and the 'good' bottles — you'll also get to sip on some of their award-winning vintages. Sounds like a win-win.
YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT
Look for: 'Nourish to Flourish'
These days, it's about eating well. In this masterclass, Chef Sidharth Bhardwaj from JW Marriott Mussorie Walnut Grove Resort & Spa will be weighing in on how to translate culinary nutrition into bold flavours. Who knows? This could do wonders for your waistline.
THE TRUFFLE ACADEMY
Look for: 'For the love of truffles'
Unearth the origin of truffles with Chef Stefano di Salvo from JW Marriott Hotel Singapore South Beach, as he demonstrates how to distinguish, prepare and make the prized ingredient shine in your daily meals at home.
THE MAIN SUPPER
Look for: 'Supper experience'
Come hungry, as this supper entails a five-course experience designed to incite your senses. Prepared by the chefs from JW Marriott outfits in Hangzhou, Hong Kong and Bangkok, who have interpreted their personal culinary journeys into the entire feast. One thing's for sure, this is a supper meant for the books.
JW Marriott's 'Taste the Moment' will be held on 24 and 25 March. Tickets are now on sale here.
