Janice Wong collaborates with Ong Shunmugam for her latest high tea menu at 2am:dessertbar
Where art meets culinary
So you're not in the camp of booking flights to Hong Kong just yet, but you're definitely missing the heart of travel. To fill the void — quite literally — comes Janice Wong's personal ambition of Japanese sweets, making up 2:am:dessertbar's latest high tea menu.
In her latest culinary exploration she collaborates with Ong Shunmugam, the acclaimed local designer brand behind a series of tableware, rattan furniture, and fashion pieces that aim to provide an Asian expression. Taking inspiration from the delicate porcelain designs made in Arita, Japan, Janice Wong creates a refreshingly new high tea menu featuring various experimentations between Japanese and Asian flavors, titled 'The Floating World Ukiyo High Tea'.
Janice Wong's motivations for this high tea series are clear: "I wanted to continue along the theme of travel and couldn't think of a better way to showcase some of my favourite parts of Japan – the art and the food."
The culinary experience is promised to enact a feeling of finding peace in modern life; much like the name of the experience itself: The Floating World culture, represented by "Ukiyo". Through her exquisite combination of the sweet and salty, the serious yet fun, and the traditional yet modern, the gourmet high tea menu will encourage the consumer to fully live in the moment, in order to experience the full flavor. The gourmet range will include playful dishes such as Miso pork and chicken dumplings wrapped like a candy bun in homemade red white skin, amongst other savoury and sweet picks like the Citrus Bergamot Yuzu Passionfruit Basil Tart or the pillowy fresh mochis.
The Floating World Ukiyo High Tea menu is available every weekend at 2am:dessertbar from 14 November through to 6 December 2020, with limited sets available each day.
