The legendary BG Restaurant has birthed its first cookbook with a little help from fashion industry tastemakers
Salads are seldom the sexiest item on the menu. But at the famed BG Restaurant perched on the seventh floor of luxe department store Bergdorf Goodman, the salad is king. It even has a name — The Gotham Salad. It's really just a chopped green salad amped up with summer-sweet Roma tomatoes, nutty gruyère, and a flash of beetroot — but 30 years on, it continues to leap off the pass at 2,500 bowls per month. Instead of flying out to New York to sate your salad cravings, take a leaf from The Bergdorf Goodman Cookbook and revive the magic from home.
If salads are a little too virtuous for your tastes, turn to other legendary BG dishes on the menu for dinner party inspiration. Think classics like a hearty lobster bisque, chicken Milanese, and crab crakes with spicy remoulade.
While the illustrations by Konstantin Kakanias are a joy to behold, what we really love are the glimpses inside the kitchens and recipe books of such fashion industry insiders as Diane von Furstenberg, Zac Posen, and Nina Garcia. With more than 100 recipes to choose from, dinner is just waiting to be served.
