Christmas dining guide 2019: Lunch, brunch, dinner at Oxwell & Co, PS.Cafe, Po, Salted & Hung, and more
It's the most wonderful time of the year. While sleigh bells might not quite be jingling outside our window, the weeks leading up to Christmas are filled with joyous gatherings over lavish feasts. The upside? Hours of games and conversation, the trilogy of roasts, and a decadent menu that we look forward to all year. The downside, however, are the hours of prep that goes into the dishes and the arduous clean-up process after. By the third hosted dinner, you're done.
So, we've done you a generous favour and rounded up some of our island's most epic Christmas meals where there's no clean up involved. We've topped it all off by selecting those with a decidedly hip and cool factor, so they'll up your cred with both your closest crew and social media following. Eat and drink in abandon — Santa would approve.
Oxwell & Co
A traditional British gastropub meal over the yuletide season is always a winner, and Oxwell & Co is about to make that a reality with its Christmas menu — available in either three or four courses. Kick off with the likes of a chicken liver pate, cured salmon with horseradish cream and dill cucumber, or a hearty butternut squash, parsnip, and apple soup. They're all refreshing, yet authentically punchy in flavour. Moving on, mains are unapologetically carnivorous — pick from a beautiful sirloin of beef, succulent turkey roulade, or crackled pork belly. While that 70-year-old sticky date pudding recipe is a dream, so are their festive tipples. We'll have the Spiced Pear Fizz, because the combination of Beefeater gin, pear, cinnamon, honey, lemon, and prosecco is too good to resist.
Available from now till end January 2020.
PS.Cafe is just short of world domination with yet another outlet opening in East Coast Park, and their Christmas offerings, available at all their restaurants, are just as heroic. We think their Baked Christmas Camembert is the perfect dish for the season — paired with prunes, apricots, and walnuts, it comes topped with a drizzle of Manuka honey. It sets you up nicely for PS.Cafe's Turkey Dinner, a quintessential must-have layered with an apricot-glazed leg ham and chestnut and sage stuffing. You'll have to save room for dessert, as the iconic chain is renowned for, as their Basque cheese cake comes infused with heady additions of rum-macerated raisins. There won't be a paiseh piece on this one.
Available from now till 25 December 2019.
If there's one good reason to visit The Warehouse Hotel, it's Po, their chic restaurant serving up refined Singaporean fare. Perhaps your grandmother can't deal with non-Asian food, or you're finally done and dusted with copious amounts of turkey, but who said the festive season can't be about bak kut teh? Po's rendition is cleverly executed with spiced Iberico pork ribs, while their Nonya Lamb Rack puts a twist on the usual holiday meat. Round up the spread with the King Crab Kerabu Salad, accompanied with a fresh tamarind dressing for a bright burst of flavour.
Available on 31 December 2019.
Salted & Hung
Salted & Hung really know how to make the most of their December. With a plethora of options for dining, from a Festive 'Feed Me' Tasting Menu to Christmas Day Brunch, the kitchen will have their work cut out for them when Christmas rolls around. We're eyeing up the brunches though, because extra helpings in the afternoon are always welcome. Their communal-style Festive Weekend Brunch marries the usual festive favourites with Australian-Italian influences, such as Mackarel on Toast, and a Pumpkin & Ricotta Farfalle and Lamb Neck. Christmas Day Brunch brings forth a delectable honey baked ham, as well as an incredible seafood stew that you'll wish were an everyday affair.
Available from now till 31 December 2019.
Tanjong Beach Club
If spending the day near the warm sand and blue waters is your thing, Tanjong Beach Club will make that experience special. Their seaside Christmas brunch spread favours the freshest catch of the sea, including their Boston lobster, oysters, and whole tuna sashimi. Meat lovers will delight in the live carving station, which brings turkey and slow-roasted beef ribs to the table. Knock back a few glasses of prosecco or rose as the kids run wild and are kept occupied with activities such as face painting, balloon sculpting, and goodies from TBC's very own Santa Claus. He knows how much you deserve that kid-free tipple.
Available on 25 December 2019.
