Surely, more can still be accomplished — which is why we raided Clan Cafe's kitchen to unveil a Buro-inspired tea menu in the patriotic spirit of National Day.
Driven by local and regional ingredients, the delectable set comes in the form of cake and tea — only two of our greatest weaknesses. It also represents a dish of humble beginnings, much like how Singapore started out. Nothing too fancy or ornate, but a simple comforting treat that most people can easily relate to.
First up, a blueberry pound cake gloriously coated with calamansi cream cheese frosting. This isn't a cloying, sweet slice, but instead, it sits well on the palate and is balanced expertly with the tartness from the calamansi fruit. The iced tea? A tall, ruby-hued concoction — mainly centered around hibiscus, and spiked with pineapple and spices like cloves, cinammon and star anise. Perfect for beating our city's heat.
With every complete tea set, diners will receive a special Buro fan, designed in collaboration with local womenswear label Ong Shunmugam. The cake and tea can also be purchased separately.
