From the bottom of the sea
Can you truly call yourself a weeb if you've never tried and tested the famed uni before? Truth is, you don't even have to be one, to fall head over heels for the engimatic delicacy. Be it a decadent topping atop your sushi or a unique addition into fusion pasta, uni, a.k.a. the tongues of a sea urchin, are as exquisite as they come. The sheer effort it takes to even harvest the edible goodness from the bottom of the ocean, is already one that makes it a top tier ingredient up on the same ranks as the likes of truffle or caviar. The fresh orange or yellow dish is the epitome of richness from the sea, from its arresting smell to its creamy, buttery texture. If this culinary adventure sounds like it might be right up your alley, then it's time to check out the prime spots to treat yourself to a uni-vaganza, all for your perusal, below.
Uni Gallery by OosterBay
We don't think we could possibly create this list without the home of uni — at least the one on our shores. It's uni galore here, from decadent sushi picks to uni-infused dishes such as their Uni Oyster Shot and uni pasta options. But be warned, this is for die-hard uni fans, so until you're sure you're a certified lover of the strange cuisine, you might not want to opt for this place as a first choice. The Plaza, 7500A Beach Road, Tel: 9838 8209
Opening hours: (Sun-Thurs) 11.30am-2.45pm, 6-10pm, (Fri-Sat) 11.30am-2.45pm, 6-10.30pm
It's only right that if you're new to uni, you should try your hand at the classic don that comes with a good serving of seafood thrown in from negitoro and scallops to the prime produce. To top it all off, tempura crunch is thrown over it, making it a sufficiently textured dish for those who want to try your hand at uni, without the risk of it being too hard to stomach.

Uni's been hard to find, considering its price point alone but this business is exploring the boundaries (in the mood of 2020) with their home dining experience. And though many home businesses are taking on different spins on local fare or fusion snacks, Suguru Home Dining seeks to go all the way with the way they're serving complete Japanese fare right to your doorstep. And considering the (more) affordable standards of the fresh uni and seafood range we're getting from them, we're not complaining.
Lovers of the sweet and the savoury, this one's here for you. We're going dessert style, with this sea urchin pudding dish. The smooth and creamy texture of this dish will hit all the right nodes for some, especially if you're not they type to steer clear of a rich fare. Conjoined with a velvety blend of squid ink, egg yolk and custard cream, the uni atop this dessert is truly the cherry on the top for die hard fans amongst us. They also offer a range of other much-desirable urchin dishes to get your full course of uni (if you're up for that).

Served as part of a four-course meal, you can't go quite wrong with their chilled Uni Cold Capellini where your cravings for the Italian fare is perfectly balanced with uni, chives and anchovies. Despite its simple appearance, the natural rich flavor is ultimately derived from the generous uni served atop.
