Surprise, surprise: 40 Hands is now in the East
Better late than never
40 Hands remains one of those cafés we remember patronising before the flourishing scene blew up on our shores. It's where folks of Tiong Bahru would flock to for a decent cup of cuppa, moreish brunch platters and extra cool points on Instagram. One of Tiong Bahru's hipsterific icons, if we could so boldy declare.
Now, it has now made its sneaky foray into the east, right in the buzzing Katong neighbourhood. And while it is a sister branch of Tiong Bahru's outfit, this Eastsider sports a slightly different vibe.
Leaning towards the old-school charm of the street, the café takes on uniquely-Katong interiors such as upcycled marble tables and a geometric tiled floor. Almost like what we can find in the iconic Chin Mee Chin Confectionery (kaya toast, anyone?), which happens to be located conveniently on the same street. Other eclectic furbishings include a huge feature wall that depicts a scene from British 80s cult TV shows alongside the team's favourite coffee related film quotes.
Apart from a slight change of scenery, diners can still expect popular classics from the menu like the Jamaican pork sandwich, as well new additions like the 40 Hands cheeseburger and a certain 'stinky' Har Cheong Gai waffle. More importantly, quality coffee pours from the trusty 40 Hands team. We definitely know where we're hanging this weekend.
