First look: The Middle House brings a new level of luxury to Shanghai
When it comes to properties under The House Collective (The Upper House in Hong Kong, The Temple House in Chengdu, and The Opposite House in Beijing), we'll make a pilgrimage halfway across the world to spend a few nights in it. They're not just insanely beautiful, but boasts a level of personalised service that is unrivalled. Which other hotel has a concierge team that offers to go out and buy me airplane-packaged roast goose from Yung Kee on my final day in Hong Kong, so I didn't have to worry about it? True story.
The good news? The House Collective is bringing one more gamechanger to the heart of Shanghai's commercial district Jing'an. The Middle House, set to open its doors in April this year, is an elegant oasis designed by Milan-based architect and designer Piero Lissoni, with architecture by Lissoni Architettura and Wong and Ouyang. Lissoni took inspiration from Shanghai's rich heritage of craftsmanship and culture, marrying his minimalist style with classical Shanghainese elements. Expect modern reinterpretations of traditional Chinese furniture amidst bold lines, including oriental-style nightstands and wall-to-wall benches.
Studio rooms start at a generous 50sqm, and goes up to 100 sqm. If you prefer additional laundry and kitchen facilities, The Middle House's ample selection of Residences will suit your needs. Fans of Hong Kong's Café Gray Deluxe will be delighted to know that New York-based chef Gray Kunz is bringing his famed establishment to The Middle House. Other food alternatives include a Chinese restaurant and Italian eatery — more details to be announced in time to come.
Plus, there is the heavenly Mi Xun Spa, indoor heated swimming pool, and 24-hour gym facilities for when you need some time away from your tribe. Start planning now.
Opening April 2018. For more information or to make a reservation, visit The Middle House.
