The Buro Festival: Watch our video to relive the best moments
Birthday bash
We pride ourselves on doing things differently. So when we were brainstorming ideas for how to celebrate our second anniversary, we didn't want to just throw yet another cocktail party. Been there, done that. We wanted something dynamic, engaging, fresh and undeniably "Buro" — hence, #TheBuroFestival. From live performances and unveiling this year's winners of the Buro Digital Awards, to firebreathers and an unforgettable Insta-runway showcasing our stylish readers, our jam-packed festival at the DECK was #lit. Literally.
Prior to the event, we sent out a 3D hologram invitation to VIP guests and also launched an interactive microsite as a digital teaser for the night. RSVPs came flooding in quick. A week out from the event we had to close registrations for safety reasons — we received over 880 RSVPs for a space that technically only fits 300 guests — and, if we're being honest, also because our publisher Bettina von Schlippe was having a panic-attack just thinking about the logistics. ("Norman, stop Instagramming about the party, we cannot create any more hype!") But alas, all's well that ends well.

With performances by Singapore's local artists and DJs the likes of iNCH, DJ Nez, Perk Pietrek, Disco Hue, Thievves and Vandetta, guests arrived in style (Uber was our preferred transport partner), and danced the night away under fairy lights (thanks Midnight Sparks) fuelled by delicious hot food from Kerbside Gourmet (that fried chicken burger was TDF); champagne from Perrier-Jouët in the Garden of Wonders green room (plus a 3D looper GIF photobooth decked out by Floral Magic); Macallan serving The Macallan Fine Oak 12 years old (fruity and spicy, just how we like it); freshly squeezed juices from Joe & The Juice (for the health junkies); a free flow of oh-so-tasty Garrett popcorn (sweet or savoury, everyone's a winner); ice creams courtesy of Häagen-Dazs (from salted caramel to chocolate choc almond); artesian water from Fiji Water (all about the hydration, folks); and hearty fish-and-chips from our friends at Luxe Catering (get in my belly!).
Any good festival will have awesome music (check) and plenty of food and drink (check), but a great festival will also have plenty of Instagrammable moments (heck yes!). Enter: Stiltwalkers decked out in neon LED body suits; fire twirlers and breathers (the party was #lit); an immersive ball room by Luxasia to win Coach fragrances (definitely a Boomerang favourite); an epic Insta-runway featuring 50 stylish Buro 24/7 Singapore readers (dressed in brands from the RSH Group — that included Zara, Pull & Bear, Bershka, Stradivarius and Massimo Dutti — with hair and makeup by MAC Cosmetics, L'Oréal Professionnel, and Kimage); as well as revealing this year's winners of our Buro Digital Awards — congrats again to Rosalyn Lee (Best Female Digital Influencer), Nat Ho (Best Male Digital Influencer), oBike (Best Digital Start-Up), and Matter Prints (Best CSR-Driven Digital Campaign).
Hands down, it was a party not-to-be-missed. Many guests asked us throughout the evening — "You guys did all this just for one night?" — why, of course! What better way to celebrate our journey thus far by throwing a festival for all our readers, partners and collaborators. It's all about celebrating life together; creating memorable moments through immersive experiences. And, ultimately, to say a huge "Thank you!" to everyone that loved and supported us from the beginning. This is our success story. But guess what? The best is yet to come!
