PSLE results are out tomorrow, and this campaign was created for you, those anxious parents and children who have done their best to get to this milestone. This #PledgeForOurYouth is especially for the kid who got slapped in front of her entire class for a score that disappointed her mother, for the boy whose mother caned him the whole year each time he got less than an A, for the child in the class who got screamed at for being stupid and lazy when he didn t get a score that pleased his parents. All true, and sadly familiar stories, to many of us with kids in school in Singapore. This is for those kids, who dread the school they ll be sent to if they don t get that high-enough score, who will have to face patronising relatives during CNY. Let s all stop, and consider that there are things far more important than a score on a piece of paper. This is especially for those kids who are so fearful tonight, that they think there may not be a tomorrow. Please don t let your child think that a bump in the road could be the end of the journey. Please let them know that a grade doesn t define them, that every child is different, and that there are many paths to success and happiness. Above all, let s not be competitive parents, education is not a race. Some kids start out slower, but catch up later in life. Some develop strengths, passions and talents that don t appear until they ve begun their careers. Excelling when you re 12 years old actually has less impact than you can imagine - just ask successful people today, and their answer would almost always surprise you. Take courage. All the best tomorrow, don t forget to tell your young person that you love and support them, no matter what the outcome. If you fail an exam, you lose some marks, if they lose their self confidence, they will fail in life #lifebeyondgrades #pledgeforouryouth #sgkids #sgmoms #sgmummies @lifebeyondgrades
