Taking our gibbons for a walk! We visited Phuket s Gibbon Conservation centre as part of our trip. It was very sad and touching, we learnt how adult mama gibbons are shot out of trees so their babies can be taken and sold as pets. Many of the babies don t survive the fall out of the trees, or catch diseases before they can be sold. It s estimated that only 1 in 15 baby gibbons survives the poaching. Other gibbons were left at the centre as they were abused in the tourist trade (drugged and made to take photos, or beaten until they could no longer work) or abandoned once they were no longer cute babies. So please don t ever buy wildlife for pets or take photos with captive wild animals, even if it seems harmless, it supports the illegal poachers and traders and lets them carry on hurting animals. If you really must go home with a baby gibbon, get one like ours! We got these for 1000 baht (about SGD50)and all proceeds go towards the Gibbon Sanctuary in Phuket. Thanks for arranging this outing for us @jwmarriottphuket #familybyjw #stopillegalpoaching #stopwildlifepoaching
