Home made popiah today. So really nothing beats home made popiah. I think partly it's the gargantuan effort required to put this feast together. To do this properly requires a few days of planning and cooking because of the sheer multitude of ingredients and the labour required to slice, dice, peel, shell, mince, fry, stew, and braise and that's just the filling! In the case of my mom she makes her skin from scratch as well and its egg based so much richer and sturdier than the flour based skins. This is laborious and time intensive because each skin is made individually like a crepe. In fact it is an egg crepe! My way of eating this is to make it burrito style with one end open and totally over stuffed. As you can see this results in an enormous popiah that requires two hands to eat.
