Truth be told, I have been so more of a drinker during this #circuitbreaker. That tiny cup of sake at dinner time gives me life and a breather. I m not sure if anyone of you attempts this during the circuit breaker but this had helped me get through the past few weeks. Rather strange coming from an #introvert like me. It s stifling because I can t go wherever I want or do the things I truly enjoy. I guess #mentalhealth affects everyone, introvert or not. It s the isolation, loneliness, disconnect from humans, and most of all those habits we hold close to our hearts for years, that we now have to break. This will indeed, be a new normal we have to embrace in the coming months until a vaccine is found. The good that came out of this though, is precious. There is a crazy amount of #love and #compassion within the community during this lockdown. Treasuring #family time, learning to live #slow, learning to live #purposefully, learning to #livewithless, being more #selfreliant with less help, rediscovering the surroundings and people around you like your neighbours, spending more time with #nature and above all, finding the time to #reflect on our lives, that were once overwhelmed with nothing but busyness. For me right now, I ll be trying to find that #balance with all the real #necessities that will make me happy in life. Stay #kind and #loving, everyone. #slowlife #slowliving #covid19

I finally figured the way to keeping a kid s room tidy is to actually tidy it every day. She makes an effort to clean up after playing but she maintains that in her own way, by categorising her toys on the toys she plays with. So, the moral of the story is, to really have lesser toys. We did a cleanse about a month ago and she was really happy and much calmer in her room. The energy of the room gets her drawing most of the time. And she could do it for hours. Never underestimate how an organised room can affect a child s mind and mood. Like how it affects ours, it could certainly affect theirs too.

After making my 7th pot of #organic curry chicken, I can safely say that I have nailed this dish perfectly. Slightly different from my grandma s version but it had my own taste to it. The trick was giving layers to the curry, enhancing it with fresh lemongrass. I used organic coconut cream here so it doesn t retain that strong coconut smell you would find in most curries. I ll try fresh coconut milk next! Lastly, the most crucial part is really in the texture of the rice that accompanies the curry. I make sure the rice is cooked till it s still a tad hard (think al denté) and buy only organic jasmine rice. Simply drizzle piping hot curry sauce over that and tuck in!

Life gets crazy in my household. As many of you know, I m now on my own, tending to two homes, 3 cats and a hyperactive child along with the help of my husband. All that, while juggling work. I took a few days off this week (blame it on mercury retrograde) to reflect on my life.

Often, I found the most challenging task wasn t the physical work but it was how do you parent a child? It s still a fairly new experience to me. 4 years ago, I would think that looking after babies was overwhelming since they can t verbalise what they want. Then at the start of #terribletwos and #threenager phases, you discover this might be the toughest journey yet. How do you tell a child (an insistent one), No. without actually saying it.
Once she turned 3, I constantly felt I was parenting the incorrect way, which usually ends up with plenty of emotions from both sides.

So lately, I have been adopting a different approach. I reflected on how I was treated during my childhood we were caned if we faulted on something since there were 3 of us, haha. Barely any sanity left for my mum to handle. And whether I might have taken the same parenting approach unconsciously. Not that I caned her a lot. I could only count twice. However, my childhood and how I was treated, might surely influence how I was going to parent. I m not sure how scolding a child can help after repeated times.

I reflected and decided that I should be approaching parenting based on how I approach my own life by living a calm and slow life. One that focuses on the #present, being #conscious of ourselves, meanwhile, caring for our #wellbeing.
Most importantly, one that is #stressfree.
