Whether you’re just a casual observer or remain obsessed with all things Kim Kardashian West, one thing is clear: she knows her way around a business. That’s what she’s successfully built with shapewear brand SKIMS. In a 2021 The New York Times article, she revealed that the business is valued at US$1.6 billion.
That’s quite an impressive figure, especially considering that the brand only launched in 2019 and well, 2020 was effectively cancelled. Despite the challenges, SKIMS reported US$145 million in sales for 2020. But given her star power and the business model of the brand — SKIMS offers sizes of up to 5X with a range of skin shades — it’s not that difficult to see how much of a success SKIMS has been.

The popularity of the brand reportedly reached the eyes and ears of Fendi‘s artistic director of couture and womenswear Kim Jones. “The idea for the collaboration came about when my team and I were sitting around a table at the studio in Rome,” explains Jones in a press statement. “Suddenly, all the women went silent and started looking at their phones. I didn’t know what was going on, but they were waiting for the launch of the new SKIMS collection. It was then that I thought: let’s do something together.”
Fendi x SKIMS is a collaboration between the two that captures the best of both worlds — SKIMS well-loved fit, support and comfort paired with Fendi’s undoubtedly luxurious feel and craft.
It’s definitely a colourful capsule collection
While SKIMS’s own aesthetic has lent itself in an almost Yeezy-territory of neutrals, the Fendi x SKIMS collection is not. Taking inspiration from sketches by the late Karl Lagerfeld, there’s a heavy use of pop colours (some in velvet treatments) to supplement the collection’s neutral and skin tones. There’s also the introduction of a hybrid Fendi x SKIMS logo on a series of pieces.
There’s more than the popular shapewear
SKIMS might have sealed the deal with its shapewear but the brand has expanded over the years to include other size-inclusive options in the loungwear space and even simple slip dresses. That breadth is carried through for Fendi x SKIMS with those bold, saturated colours punctuating beachwear, shapewear, sportswear, underwear and hosiery. Bonded leather dresses with twisted details (and once again, done in skin-tone shades) are also part of the mix.
It wouldn’t be a Fendi collaboration without bags
Yes, there are Fendi x SKIMS bags. The former’s most iconic silhouettes have been given treatments reflective of the collection, and they include bags such as the Peekaboo and the Jones-introduced Fendi First. The bags are also available in mini and nano versions. And also not forgetting footwear — the Fendi x SKIMS collection includes a shearling hiking sandal as well as new interpretations of the Fendi First heel.
How to get your very own Fendi x SKIMS
There’s quite a bit of waiting to do but not for too long. The Fendi x SKIMS collection will launch globally on Tuesday, 9 November 2021 at 9pm Singapore time on fendiskims.com as well as select Fendi boutiques and stockists. However, if you’re keen on getting in on the pieces earlier, the Fendi ION Orchard will be pre-launching the collection on Tuesday, 2 November 2021.
