The Schiaparelli-Prada-Philo-McCartney effect

Admit it: Life gets a little juicer with fruit prints on your shirt, blouse, jumpsuit, tea dress and pencil skirt.

A few seasons and a lifetime ago, surrealist designer Elsa Schiaparelli delivered a toque hat of bacchanal grapes in 1939, a tongue-in-cheek adaptation of edibles that has become a surprise mainstay. The healthy revolution of zesty fruits this season is linked to Miuccia Prada — her revival of the calorie-conscious trend (how fashion!) can be attributed to the larger-than-life bananas from her spring/summer 2011 collection. Back then, Phoebo Philo too developed a sweet tooth for the yellow fruit, while Stella McCartney scoured the market for limes, lemons and oranges. After she moved on to design for Chloé, genus interruptus. Pineapples were briefly in vogue. And when fall/winter 2018 came, Prada served its iconic print again on a silver platter, with Fendi following suit.

While fashion, like fruit, has come and gone, one thing has yet to change: when life gives you lemons, make lemonade. What's in season? Pluck Buro's fresh picks below.
