Best shoe trends from fall/winter 2019: A personality-based guide to kitten heels, chunky soles, mules and more
The fall/winter 2019 runway season was a mostly sober affair in the clothes department; designers were apparently more comfortable telegraphing quirk and character through footwear (not that we're complaining). Find your perfect fit below, with our handbook to the personality types best-suited to each of FW19's — surprisingly ladylike — shoe trends.
1. KITTEN HEELS
She who wears kitten heels knows herself. And that self is half-assed and non-committal — just like a kitten heel — but in a good way; your objectivity in all matters and measured responses to problem-solving and conflict are marks of a true leader.
2. CHUNKY SOLES
Your feet barely touch the ground on both physical and emotional planes; simply put, you're a dreamer. Just be certain to make occasional contact with reality.
3. MARY JANES
Sensible and mostly content to play by the rules, you only unleash your rebellious streak when absolutely necessary; this instinct for self-preservation will take you far in life.
4. LOTS O' LACES
Analysis and systematic thinking are your cognitive calling cards. Where others see only a tangled mess of information, you're able to draw surprising connections and create order from chaos. You will rule over all of us one day — or become a mad conspiracy theorist whose domicile is a public health hazard.
5. POINTY-TOED MULES
Life on the edge is the path you've chosen; you're not afraid of faceplanting while pursuing your ambitions, nor while running after public transport as your shoes threaten to fly off your feet. You have the enviably bouncy resilience of an impressionable toddler. Tell us your secrets, please.
6. BUCKLED SHOES
Stability is of paramount importance to you. While it's comforting to stay within the limits of what's familiar and consistent, it may be worth asking yourself — are these buckles doing the work of safety belts, or straitjackets? Perhaps it's time to loosen up a little.
7. DEMURE COURTS
Your professionalism and great work ethic are tempered by a well-developed sense of work-life balance. Just as a court shoe is content doing the bare footwear minimum, you get the job competently done and basta — it's all you time. We commend you for knowing your worth and sticking by it.
