Where are the old school beaded bags carried by style influencers all over fashion week from?
Beauty and the bead
Quickly becoming the fashion set's favourite accessory about town, the beaded bag is lots of fun. Many credit this '60s to '70s comeback to Shrimps, when the British label created its pearl-adorned Antonia box bag in 2016. It's sold out and restocked numerous time over the last couple of seasons, establishing its cult 'It' status among those in the know.
Exactly how in-demand was Antonia? "We made a limited run, so we sold out very quickly," Hannah Weiland, founder of Shrimps shared with British Vogue. "For fall/winter 2017, I then designed the Antonia in cream pearls, which met with an amazing reaction. Matchesfashion.com sold over 100 in a weekend. They've since had a very long waiting list, and only ever stay in stock for a few days at a time."
To save you the anxiety, we've managed to hunt down the elusive Antonia in pink; see below, click link in blue to shop. But if your fingers aren't quite speedy enough to catch the last piece, there's a particular fruit-themed delight by New York's Susan Alexandra which rivals for our affection. High street labels have since caught on the hype too — Topshop and Zara has jumped on the bandwagon — ensuring that no one goes home empty-handed. Literally.
