The best street style from Paris Men's Fashion Week SS18

Bonjour, Paree

Fashion's jet-set coterie take over the streets of Paris

What: Paris Men's Fashion Week spring 2018
Where: Paris, France
When: 21 - 25 June 2017

On the final day of Paris Men's Fashion Week, the street style cognoscenti alludes to imminent nostalgia for the city of love with an homage to the city of Chennai, once called Madras and also the name of the print they sport below. Their modern take transcends tradition. See the checks on trim patchwork fisherman pants; as a base for iron-on patches atop a high-shine hoodie; alongside contrast piping on a man blouse, worn with a nip-and-tuck statement suit.

The Mandarin collar and calico cloth underscore the nod to the east.

Make smart with your mash-ups (e.g. white sneakers and acrylic sunglasses) to take the print out of its countryside funk.

Do like Wang Jia in Lanvin and revolve the rest of your colour palette around a key hue in the Madras to bring out its stripes.

The secret to unearth here isn't so much the New Age styling of the jean jacket, but the tricks of survival employed by the brave souls cloaked in the hardy fabric in the sweltering Parisian heat. The clues as suspected, lie in a certain pair of red berms (for ventilation), an Hermès silk scarf (to absorb moisture) and lightweight aviators (so your suffering is shielded from Tommy Ton's prying lenses).

Update the classic denim jacket + t-shirt combo with the Balenciaga Speed Trainer speakers... if you can get your hands on a pair, that is.

Going double agent? A mirroring two-piece is heaps more put together than separates of contrasting hues.

Is the denim peacoat, seen here on Carine Roitfeld, the new bomber jacket? Only time will tell.

It was Yves Saint Laurent who famously said, "Fashions come and go, but style is forever," but little did he know that the fanny pack, aka the bum bag, would be testament to this since it came on during the better part of the '80s. While a #throwback in the neon nylon variety is appropriate for the decade-obsessed, secure its 2017 comeback with leather and minimalist hardware detailing. Your future selves thank you.

Some advice, like keeping your belongings close at all times, you have to take to heart. Literally.

Editor-in-chief Norman Tan's new Prada might go missing when he returns to Singapore. He's been warned.

The dad bod may be out, but the dad fad? That we can do.

A trending style trope the street style veterans are currently experimenting with is the waist accessory. Belts? They'll take them long — just like their black coffee. Scarves? Dispensed with the bourgeois knots around the neck, they are tucked into the loop of waistbands. See how this trick can elevate the simplest of outfits, below.
