The footwear label this TV show made famous is opening its first boutique in Singapore
Manolo. Manolo Blahnik
It's never been about being the next Carrie Bradshaw. In the words of another cultural icon, "Wanting to be someone else is a waste of the person you are." Kurt Cobain is right. Although synonymous with (and its status symbol, cemented by) the protagonist of immortal television show 'Sex and the City', the seduction of Bradshaw and by extension, her favourite shoe label Manolo Blahnik, has never been rooted in the material. Ironically, it is in the immaterial. It is the idea that an attitude, expressed by an outfit or simply a pair of killer shoes, can elevate you from who you are to who you are meant to be.
Such an undertaking shouldn't happen behind closed doors. The metamorphosis deserves a spotlight. It should be glorified, if not televised, witnessed in a setting befitting of the occasion. Which is why Manolo Blahnik's first stand-alone boutique in Singapore is a long time coming.
Cookie cutter brick-and-mortar, this is not. In the designing of its interiors, constant collaborator, architect Nick Leith-Smith took into considerations the city's signature duality; its pioneering modernity rooted and beset in a colonial heritage. Of his creation, he said, "The scale of surrounding architecture called for a space with a very distinctive presence. In part our inspiration stemmed from Pierre Chareau's Maison de Verre framing the space in cubist metal and glass geometries with a striking chequered flooring, evoking that of an elegant colonial style veranda."
Manolo Blahnik is now open at The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands, #B1-80A.
