"My mum is unstoppable": Silvia Venturini Fendi and her daughters on family and the heritage of Peekaboo

F is for... family

Text: Andrea Sim

A decade since its birth, the Peekaboo bag is irrevocably a part of the Fendi brood — designer Silvia Venturini Fendi and daughters, Delfina and Leonetta talk ties and longevity

The idea of kin, bounded by DNA, has been entrenched in us since birth. We define it as a brother, a sister, our parents, but eventually grow to learn that such a concept merely skims the surface. What about lifelong friends and pets, or even the inanimate?

Growing up in a family-led fashion house and at the helm of accessories and menswear, Silvia Venturini Fendi's definition of family must surely run deeper than blood. A synonym for Fendi, perhaps. Its bags. Its shoes. Her creations — birthed, groomed and nurtured. As the Peekaboo turns ten, the designer and her daughters, Delfina Delettrez and Leonetta Luciano pause to consider its role in the broader Fendi heritage.

Above, moments between a mother, two sisters, and a bag that's earned its (pequin) stripes.
