Saint Laurent is Colette's one last hurrah, wheeling skateboards and scooters as sendoffs
Saint Laurent and Colette have not always gotten along.
In 2013, the store stocked T-shirts that read 'Ain't Laurent without Yves' following Hedi Slimane's ascend and re-branding — all in good humour, of course — rubbing Saint Laurent the wrong way, but the lawsuit settled in 2016 brought the two heavyweights back on the same page. That is, one last hurrah till Colette shutters for good.
Saint Laurent is to succeed Chanel's takeover that wraps up on 25 November, and the brand's residency sees a slew of collector's pieces specially commissioned for the occassion; a collaboration even more befitting should the rumours of the French maison's move into Colette's 213 Rue Saint Honoré address be true.
Hoodies, sweatshirts and T-shirts come slapped with the Saint Laurent logo, but the house's affinity with music also comes forth in the Patti Smith and Bryan Ferry pieces.
Perhaps more exciting — on account of rarity and multi-brand collaborations — are the lifestyle items. Joining forces with Bang & Olufsen births B&O Play headphones and speakers; a tie-up with Vespa serves up an all-black scooter; Ruby, its matching all-black helmet; Arkaic Concept, leopard print and Inez & Vinoodh printed skateboard decks; and Polaroid, the SX-70 camera complete with black and white Polaroid 600 film with black borders — all in name of the occasion and inscribed with Saint Laurent branding.
