Defining moments

The campaign's heartwarming images reflect the open interaction and free conversation between Robert De Niro and McCaul Lombardi about differing philosophies, thoughts and experiences

It looks like the year is getting off to an exciting new start for Ermenegildo Zegna. The Italian luxury fashion house has revealed its spring/summer 2017 campaign — titled Defining Moments — featuring Hollywood legend Robert De Niro and up-and-coming young star McCaul Lombardi. It's this exact spirit of synergy that Zegna wanted to focus on with the campaign, and to showcase the conversations that are born when worlds collide.

Marking the first expression of a new emotionally connected voice that Zegna hopes to bring to all its communities around the globe, artistic director Alessandro Sartori, alongside the brilliant filmmaker Francesco Carrozzini, embarked on a four-way dialogue with De Niro and Lombardi. While De Niro is a veteran whose roles in Taxi Driver and The Godfather Part II have sealed his credibility for life, Lombardi is a fresh, inquisitive and intelligent actor that rose to fame with last year's drama film American Honey. As much as they are polar opposites in career standing and reputation, both actors share the same vocation and are of Italian-American heritage. These shots below, exclusive to Buro 24/7 Singapore only, capture a rare insight on what went on during the filming process.

The conversation was a four-way, free form dialogue between designer, filmmaker and the two stars of Defining Moments — and in the campaign video, you'll find a natural affinity between De Niro and Lombardi. De Niro, with years of clout and experience, chats about his mentors and risk-taking beliefs while Lombardi takes it all in and shares his similar insights. This reflects the future and heart of Zegna, a place where wool farmers, tailors and designers can be part of an ongoing conversation to create what they never thought possible. Watch and be inspired.
