Oscars 2017: The biggest trend on the red carpet is...

Easy does it

Simple and stunning. These are the best low-key looks to hit the red carpet

The path to extravagance is a tempting one to go down given the gravity of an occasion like the 89th Academy Awards. And sure enough, the red carpet played host to plenty of celebrities who chose to make golden statements. Glamourous and befitting? Without a doubt, but that's also what we call oh-so-predictable. While Emma Stone might have glistened in a tiered Givenchy dream and Jessica Biel looked impossibly hot in distressed sequins, it's the pure simplicity and stylistic confidence of these starlets that have our utmost attention.

We round up the walking, talking, gorgeous examples — that is Karlie Kloss, Viola Davis, Dakota Johnson and more — who demonstrate that sometimes, going against the grain pays off.
