New sustainable fashion label in Singapore, Sans Faff, offers eco-friendly minimalist dresses, T-shirts for easy, everyday wear
Brandy Dallas has always wanted to be a business owner. She never knew what the entrepreneurship life had in store for her until she was clearing her closet one afternoon in 2019. "I noticed that I had a tall stack of T-shirt dresses I wear on a regular basis, yet I couldn't find one that was in good enough condition for me to keep for much longer," she shared exclusively with Buro. Singapore. "At the same time, I felt bad about throwing them away." That, was the eureka moment she was waiting for.
Six months later, she quit her glamorous job at Tiffany & Co. to work on her fashion label full-time. Currently 12 item-strong, the made-in-Singapore brand she named Sans Faff focuses on (you guessed in) quality, durable T-shirt dresses and other everyday basics. Dallas' wardrobe is not the only one whence inspiration came — each piece is designed and named after a beloved friend. Lorraine has curves, and the dress of the same name is meant to hug them; Giulia lives and breathes in jumpsuits, so she gets her own flattering onesie here.
Not wanting to further burden the environment with yet another unsustainable fashion line, garments from Sans Faff are primarily made of bamboo, the fastest growing plant in the world. "Double cloth lightweight bamboo," she reminded us, "so the fabric is gentle yet strong against the skin."
Sans Faff's packaging and hang tags are also made from recyclable Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified paper, their mailer bags fully biodegradable. Production and handling are localised too, so Dallas can maintain quality contol. "It's very important to me that we provide safe working conditions for all our workers, which is why my factory is in the government-owned Jurong Town Corporation (JTC) industrial estate, not somewhere far away," Dallas shared. She also noted that while the fabric is currently sourced from China (Singapore does not have a bamboo farm), she's hoping to find a provider closer to Singapore.
Sans Faff's first collection, 'Future Proof Essentials' is available online.
