Bag a Rejane at Moynat's first gallery in Singapore
The French have always impressed with their sophisticated savoir-faire; or, put another way, their knack for doing great things well. Take note of the women who have set their names in textbooks: Joan of Arc and Marie Curie, for instance, both of whom have made remarkable contributions in military and science respectively.
Then there's Pauline Moynat, the only female trunk-maker in history. With her eye for the finer details, and her adoration of exquisite objects with French origins, she birthed the Moynat brand in 1849 — its first boutique situated at Place du Théâtre Français in the first arrondissement of Paris.
Fast forward to a brand revival (excuse us, a renaissance) in 2011, and a worldwide takeover by way of brick-and-mortar expansion, Moynat is finally opening a stand-alone boutique in Singapore.
Housed within the heart of Takashimaya, the Moynat Gallery will carry men's and women's leather goods; the brand's most popular item, the Rejane, and other iconic pieces such as their trunks and textiles, also present and accounted for. Designed by Gwenaël Nicolas, the Singapore store is enveloped by lacquered panels and accentuated with warm amber and leather tones.
Tip: While waiting for your personalisation service (customise your order or opt for hand-painted initials), make sure you look up to marvel at the one-of-a-kind curved ceiling.
The Moynat Gallery in Singapore will open on 27 July at Takashimya Shopping Centre.
