The Italian brand's latest ad campaign challenges gender expectations

Imagine an Aston Martin cruising down the highway at breakneck speed. Now, think of the individual behind the wheel. Was it a he or a she that came to mind?

Talk of supercars and motor-racing tend to implicate the male gender; the fairer sex often found on the sidelines in high speed territory. But not if Miuccia Prada has a say about it. Though the Miu Miu campaign video, Croisière resort 2018, is as visually arresting as it gets — courtesy of Alasdair McLellan's gorgeous colour saturation — for us, the crux of the short film is how the brand chose to portray its leading ladies.

Set at the Autodrome de Linas-Montlhéry racetrack in France, Miu Miu's all-female line-up (Elle Fanning, Anna Ewers, Joan Smalls, Doutzen Kroes and more) go up against gender stereotypes by taking on the roles of racers and pit stop crew.

Above, Fanning Et Al. is seen getting behind the wheel and changing car tires — decked to the nines in of course, the latest Miu Miu. While scenes of the supercars in motion featured authorised experts in control, we applaud the brand for subverting gender norms and debunking the cliché that us women belong in the grandstand and not on the racetrack.
