Marni Market comes to Singapore and it's exactly the alternative pop-up shop you imagine it to be
No offense to Ikea, but you can only furnish your home with so many Scandinavian furniture before they start to blend in with the four walls that house them. You're going to need that one accent piece — or five — for style, if not for spirit.
Having made rounds in a handful of Asian cities — Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, Fukuoka, Bangkok, Hong Kong, Beijing and Shanghai just to name a few; and the west — Milan, Paris, Los Angeles, the Marni Market is finally (though fashionably late, tsk) reaching Singapore.
The tour, which began in April 2015, has been on the road with Marni's eccentric home improvement pieces — all bespoke, limited edition, very Little House on the Prairie only circa now. Nature serves as inspiration, as observed on the wrought iron trinket boxes moulded after village houses, as well as metal chairs, animal figurines and fruit-shaped bowls hand-woven with colourful PVC by Colombian artisans. Speaking of decoratives, the Marni Wooly Friends are just the conversation starter a living space needs. The mixed material bespectacled frilly aliens span several body types and colourways. #diversity
Those prefer their art to be worn will delight at the handwoven basket bags, the reinvented Trunk bag and fresh variations of the iconic striped Marni shopping bag.
Marni Market will be open at Ion Orchard from August 1 to August 15.
