Jason Wu designs an escapist capsule for the chic beach hotel in Mexico where he got hitched
Just because not every detail of your wedding is broadcasted on live television for millions to scrutinise on social media doesn't mean it's any less impactful, any less inspiring. Jason Wu, master of surprise transnational collaborations, can attest to that.
Hotel Esencia, one of the swankiest boutique hotels along Riviera Maya on the Caribbean coastline of Yucatán Peninsula, was tapped as Jason Wu's latest muse. Where he married longtime partner Gustavo Rangel and brought home priceless personal moments, he also took with him material for a future collaboration.
Such as the graphic of birds of paradise, featured prominently on the beloved property and now transplanted onto quintessentially Wu 1950s nipped and tucked shirtdresses, as well as pleated skirts finished with waterfall ruffles. Bold stripes, excerpted from the colour-blocked mid-century furnishings of Hotel Esencia, are imprinted onto silk blend knits. Another archetypal Wu constituent, the seasonless cotton poplin, is rightfully included in the capsule too for that inevitable beach to borough transition.
Jason Wu x Hotel Esencia is available online at Net-a-Porter, in stores at Bergdorf Goodman, Saks Fifth Avenue and Nordstrom in the United States, as well as the Retrobottega boutique at Hotel Esencia.
