ICYMI: Donald Trump opens Louis Vuitton factory, Puma works with Balmain and Cara Delevingne, and California bans fur

1. California bans fur.

Two animal rights bills were signed into effect by California governor Gavin Newsom, and the new policies will outlaw the sale and manufacture of fur products from 2023. This is the first time a US state has put something of this scale into action.

 

2. Celine and Louis Vuitton opens new factories.

President Donald Trump might have inaugurated the new Louis Vuitton facility in Texas, USA, but social media had a field day poking fun at Trump’s pronunciation of the French label instead. Across the world, Celine opened a new factory in Chianti, Italy to up production of the French brand's handbags and small leather goods.

 

3. Claims of mistreatment at Lululemon factory.

Some media outlets have alleged that workers at a Bangladesh factory which manufactures Lululemon were verbally and physically abused. In response, the Canadian athleisure brand have stated that it will investigate the matter and audit their vendors.

 

4. Celine and Ecco unveil new store concepts.

Celine’s latest Melbourne store on Collins Street was designed by Hedi Slimane with a Brutalist style. Here in Singapore, Ecco opened its first Prime store at Marina Bay Sands.

5. Chanel exhibits in Tokyo.

The Mademoiselle Privé showcase will offer insights into the brand history and designs created by Coco Chanel, Karl Lagerfeld, and Virginie Viard.


6. Talita von Furstenberg drops second collection.

The second line-up by Diane von Furstenberg's granddaughter consists of 20 pieces inspired by her time in the Connecticut countryside.


7. Puma joins forces with Balmain and Cara Delevingne.

The boxing-themed sportswear collection (made up of ready-to-wear, shoes, and accessories) is set to launch worldwide on 21 November.


8. Vegan Fashion Week wraps up its second run.

The shows, which were held in Los Angeles, explored “challenges surrounding ecological and climate change through the lenses of fashion, creativity, ethics, ecology, science, technology, and legal practices.”


9. New collaborations and launches.

Charles & Keith unveiled a limited edition 4-piece bag collection with Singaporean embroidery artist Teresa Lim. Uniqlo collaborated with JW Anderson for a cosy fall/winter 2019 drop, while Kipling tapped on Chinese embroidery Angel Chen for a bag collection. Colony Clothing is hosting a Beams pop-up from now till 17 January.
