Hedi Slimane releases a new bag collection at Celine featuring the archival Triomphe monogram print
By now, we’re no stranger to Hedi Slimane’s penchant of reviving house classics at Celine. Case in point: Slimane reintroduced the Triomphe bag (first created in 1973 by Celine Vipiana) last year. Another revival you can expect come October? Celine’s fragrance line, which hasn’t seen any new blood since 2011.
Slimane is staying on this lane well into the rest of the year, this time by bringing about a new revival in the form of the Triomphe monogram. You might find the link pattern familiar as the all-over print takes the shape of the mirrored double-C hardware, named Blazon Chaine, found on the Triomphe bag (see below), which draws inspiration from the chains that encircle the Arc de Triomphe. The Arc first became entwined with the brand when Vipiana's car stalled near the monument. This led her to create the Blazon Chaine, featured prominently on the Triomphe, then and now.
The collection comprises seven bags, ranging from a camera bag to a larger travel bag. Made with natural cotton dipped in black and ochre tones, the pieces evoke a vintage flair reminiscent of old Celine that ardent fans have been missing since the beloved Phoebe Philo took her final bow in spring 2018 season.
The Celine Triomphe Canvas collection is now available at Celine stores.
