A collector of Gucci tees and sweatshirts? #GucciHallucination by Ignasi Monreal will add heft to your collection
Gotta have 'em all
Bears, snakes, cats, tigers and rabbits. What do these animals have in common? The everyman will tell you that they're, well, animals. The Gucci fanatic however, will know that these species have all graced cotton tees and jumpers from the Florentine brand — something that has become quite a bit of a collectible these days.
The latest to that offering incorporates the work of Spanish artist Ignasi Monreal — responsible for the brand's recent campaign imagery — that grabs attention for its whimsicality and left field qualities. See: the irony of boys shod in Gucci penny loafers reaching down for a fallen penny, and a knight, armoured and ready for battle, toting Gucci and texting. Such is Monreal's brand of humour, now imbued on nine T-shirts and sweatshirts, monikered #GucciHallucination.
It is to be made available online only on Gucci.com, in limited runs of 100 and 200 pieces per sweatshirt and T-shirt design respectively; each piece numbered, as a reminder of the collection's exclusivity. By simple virtue of scarcity, Monreal's collaboration is looking to be a prized item for lovers (and flexers) of Gucci.
Available on Gucci.com from 11 April.
