Heavy Smoker by Fxxking Rabbits for Surrender: Casting a Japanese eye over Singapore’s ‘fine’ culture
Starting tomorrow, Singaporean streetwear boutique Surrender is hosting a two-day pop up to spotlight its collaboration with Japanese label Fxxking Rabbits (sometimes stylised as #FR2), the irreverent mascot of which is literally two bunnies mid-coitus. Designer Ryo Ishikawa's loopy approach to fashion has proven irresistible to its previous collaborators — which include Champion, Fujifilm and Fragment — with hyper-collectible pieces such as camera-shaped candy dispensers and chocolate 'cigarettes' providing fans plenty of fun to go with their fashion fix.
The brand's 12-piece capsule collection of streetwear, phone cases, mugs and bottles, titled Heavy Smoker, takes on Singapore's puritanical laws governing public behaviour. It’s immortalised in the 'Singapore is a fine city' T-shirts, available at every souvenir stand. Adding even more local flavour to the designs, #FR2's libidinous bunnies have metamorphosed into Merlion-esque hybrids, though no explanation is given on how that works in their mythical new form...
