Ganryu returns: The Japanese designer to unveil eponymous label, Fumito Ganryu at Pitti Uomo 94
Fumito Ganryu was first inducted into the hallowed halls of Comme des Garçons in 2004, taking on the role of pattern maker at Junya Watanabe. In just three years, he moved on to produce his own line, Ganryu, appended with CDG as with the other designers — like Watanabe — in Rei Kawakubo and Adrian Joffe's nest. Now, he's taking flight.
Following a departure from the CDG family in 2017, Ganryu is due to present his eponymous label Fumito Ganryu at Pitti Immagine Uomo 94, taking place in Florence from 12 to 15 June. The brand's ethos is said to be grounded in the relationship between body and garment, with the designer hinting at distinction between his labels, new and old: "I will do my best to express my vision, taking it to new directions," said Ganryu.
