Federer x On: Roger Federer teams up with Swiss brand On to release his first signature tennis shoe
It's hard to get off the wrong foot when you're tennis' golden boy. Roger Federer, now 38, has been enthralling tennis fans for decades with his dazzling backhand and effortless style. Off the court — and after a whopping 24 years as Nike's cover star — he jumped ship for a $300 million sponsorship deal with Uniqlo, beating the Swoosh in court for the rights to his iconic "RF" logo. Now, Roger has teamed up with Swiss running brand, On, to release his first signature shoe.
Christened "The Roger", this classic-looking tennis shoe is a breath of fresh air in a market clouded with jacked-out designs and elaborate colourways. That's not to say it's a basic fit, though. Beneath its Stan Smith and Rod Laver-esque aesthetic lies a whole strew of On's cutting-edge Swiss technology, including its signature agile CloudTec soles and plush inner sock construction that holds your feet firmly in place.
With the pro tennis circuit on hold indefinitely due to COVID-19, it’ll be some time before we see whether Federer’s new kicks can help him extend his already unprecedented second prime. It'll also be some time before you get a hold on these — they are completely sold out despite its S$339 price tag. Regardless, if you're a casual fan or a Federer fanboy, it's definitely time to put your best foot forward and check out this new drop.
