Experience a slice of Karl Lagerfeld's fantastical show sets at the new Chanel pop-up
You've seen the Chanel supermarket. Brasserie Gabrielle. The data centre. That rocket launch pad where a spacecraft actually 'took off'. It might be a certain coterie of people who sit at a Chanel runway show, but the Kaiser's reputation for elaborate (and exceedingly functional) show sets precedes the real-life experience.
If your invite never turned up in the mail, here's the next best thing: Spending an afternoon immersed in Chanel's new concept pop-up located at The Shoppes by Marina Bay Sands. Currently themed to the Métier d'art Paris Cosmopolite collection (translation: Pre-fall 2017) that descended upon Hôtel Ritz Paris last December, Karl Lagerfeld's inspiration bled from the raucous good ol' days where society's inner circle would congregate at the hotel to wine, dine and make merry till the wee hours of the morning — a routine Coco herself relished, having practically adopted the Ritz as her second home.
Elements of its gilded interior — also evident in the pre-fall collection — lends itself to the pop-up, where a lustrous check-in desk and racks resembling the bellhop's cart bring a slice of Parisien opulence to our shores. Segemented into four sections for an intimate shopping experience, wander through the rooms to soak in the Métier d'art in all its glory: The tweed salon — a showcase of the runway's opening ensembles — and the Gabrielle room — a spotlight on the latest contemporary bag (and soon-to-be icon) from the house of Chanel.
Conceptualised as an 'ephemeral' boutique, expect the pop-up to change its face once the retail timeline segues into fall 2017 (slated to take on facets of the futuristic launchpad Lagerfeld commissioned for the season's show) and also, to end its run by November 2017. So pencil in a visit or two on your calendar, or forever leave the ultimate Chanel shopping experience unchecked on your bucket list.
Chanel's temporary pop-up boutique is open from now till November 2017. Located at #B1-142, The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands.
