Revisit one of Karl Lagerfeld's last Chanel Haute Couture extravaganzas in Netflix's 7 Days Out documentary series
The making of a magical moment
Haute Couture has long been fashion's most mysterious and venerated tradition, and few names were as strongly associated with it as the late Karl Lagerfeld; his immersive, jaw-dropping sets for Chanel always made for a fascinating contrast with the delicate handiwork of the brand's ateliers. In director Andrew Rossi's 7 Days Out documentary series — now on Netflix — we get to appreciate every detail, as the man who brought us Met Gala doco The First Monday in May unpacks the staging behind one of Lagerfeld's final Chanel Haute Couture shows for SS18. From set designers painting (and re-painting) garden trellises to look authentically weathered, to petite mains racing against the clock during last-minute fittings, this 45-minute sugar rush is a bittersweet document of the unbridled creative genius we have lost.
