The new celebrity arm candy: Alexander McQueen's Box Bag
Do the boxtrot
As far as evening bags go, few are as ubiquitous as Alexander McQueen's Knuckle Box clutch — birthed in 2009 — and its predecessor launched 2 years prior, the Skull Box Clutch. They came in every variation imaginable. Scalloped with pastel sequins, then further embellished with layer upon layer of petals? Surely. Encrusted with pearls of purposefully imperfect shapes and shades? Why not. Studded over a metal lattice body? An unanticipated classic. Bound tightly in patchwork leather parading the Union Jack? It's only natural.
Fashion critics who argued that it's impossible to top those larger-than-life creations were right. But what many of us failed to see coming was how McQueen would handle its reinvention of the evening bag, at least, within the walls of its celebrated maison.
Cue The Box Bag.
Void of any embellishment, the shape of the bag claims the stage. The main silhouette of the label's spring/summer edit sees two sizes — 16cm for the small, 19cm for the medium — swathed in Italian grained goatskin leather on the outside and soft suede within. Treasure chests and trunk luggages inspired its acute shape with a distinctive fold and twist lock closure due north. As much a crossbody bag, shoulder bag and a clutch, swap the fine gold chain for the detachable wide leather strap for day or ditch both to go hands on.
The Box Bag by Alexander McQueen is available in stores.
