Alber Elbaz's legacy lives on at LeSportsac

A comeback

Time — and new fashion projects — heals all wounds

Rarely does a designer's departure from a fashion house cause the kind of flurry Alber Elbaz's did when news surfaced that he was to exit Lanvin, where he helmed its creative direction after 14 years. The public's melancholia mirrored his. A usually upbeat Elbaz told an audience at The New School's Parsons School of Design later, "Since I left Lanvin, I have a huge scar. For the first couple of months, I walked around Paris and it was raining. I never knew if it was the rain or my tears."

His current mood couldn't be further from that of 2016. Observing his upcoming LeSportsac collaboration, one can deduce that the spirited Elbaz fans know and love is back. His signature graphic leopard prints and joyous feminine motifs are aplenty, alongside scribbles of exuberant quotes such as "I had the same dress last season" and "you love divine", sprawl an array of bag silhouettes classic to LeSportsac. Pouches, crossbodies, backpacks and totes make up the 12-piece collection.

Of his September release, he said: "If we inject more love into fashion, and less fear, we have a beautiful reason to wake up every morning. LeSportsac is fun, colourful and modern — it makes me smile every time."

Hear hear.

Alber Elbaz x LeSportsac will be available in LeSportsac boutiques from August 2018.
