Watch: How a pair of Dior men's sneakers are made

Perfection in imperfection

Dior Homme lifts the curtains on its punk-inspired essentials

For spring/summer 2017, Kris Van Assche has certainly made sure that the Dior man's rebel rep is in spades. One part floated by a rule breaking black-tie edit, and the other, his collection of street-hitting sneaks. Artfully crackled, flecked and gradated, perfection is not to be found within its seasoned bad boy veneer — but look past the attitude and therein lies a new age marriage of precision technology bounded to centuries-honed craft.

A telescope of the peerless expertise the house of Dior was founded on, the video zooms in on Van Assche's tribute to Monsieur Dior, where the sneaker's Prince of Wales upper are double stitched and hand-painted with graphic splatters — its pieces coming together over a duration of four days. "I always like to blur the lines and create contrasts: The idea here was to play with a classical shape and radical techniques," expressed Van Assche. The artistic director's vision, above.
