Tabitha Simmons x Atelier Swarovski: We speak to the stylist-turned-shoe designer on her debut jewellery collection
All that glitters
Super stylist and shoe designer Tabitha Simmons counts Tory Burch, Lily Aldridge and Alexa Chung as friends. Jennifer Aniston, Gigi Hadid and Megan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex are fans of her footwear, which are known for its quirky elegance and fun embellishments. The latest to join her star-studded network? Atelier Swarovski, which recently partnered with Simmons for a whimsical jewellery collection.
In her debut, Simmons put a couture update on charms and lockets with crystals in gorgeous shades of blue, emerald, silver and grey. The 14-piece collection has an air of refined glamour and romantic femininity, with statement drop earrings, mismatched earrings, an ear cuff, a statement necklace, pendant necklace, bracelet and ring. She tells us more about her work with the fine jewellery brand:
What is the inspiration for your debut collection with Atelier Swarovski?
For inspiration for this collection, I looked at a lot of Victorian portraits and renaissance paintings.
Do you have a specific woman in mind when you design this collection?
A very romantic and feminine woman who isn't afraid to make a statement.
Describe the collection in five words.
Romantic, feminine, timeless, charming, Victorian.
What's your favourite piece from the collection? How would you style it?
The coloured mismatched earrings and the charmed necklace.
What was the design process like?
It was fun and I was so honoured to work with the Swarovski team. I had so much fun designing jewellery for the first time.
What do you like about the Atelier Swarovski/Swarovski brand? How was it working with the Atelier Swarovski team?
It really was a dream working with Swarovski. I have used Swarovski crystals in my shoe design since I began my business so I know how amazing their products are.
As you're a stylist-turned-footwear designer, what were the challenges you faced designing jewellery?
I love jewellery so much and I had so many ideas when it came to designing it myself for the first time. There were so many different avenues I wanted to explore that the hardest part was picking one clear vision and sticking to it!
What is your motto when it comes to fashion?
Be yourself and go. Don't jump on trends if they don't suit you.
