Paris Fashion Week SS16: Alexander McQueen

A little mix of everything

Sarah Burton’s SS16 collection for Alexander McQueen was a mix of Victorian, punk, and all things ethereal

The inspiration and collection: Trust Sarah Burton to dream up a romantic collection inspired by a bygone era. Despite that, it looked modern and was pretty yet edgy, and dramatic yet lust-worthy. Every look could have possibly been designed for royalty, but, the real inspiration is in fact the Huguenot migrants of Spitalfields from the 17th century. Ruffles were big for Burton and came in all forms — tiered, fluid and structured included. They were also finely embellished with pearls worthy of princesses of all kinds; ranging from punk to boho.

Wishlist worthy: The breathtaking finale looks in delicate lace, embroidery, feathers and embellishments. Simply so stunning we have half a mind to invest in a piece to put on display as art.

Something you might have missed: A wispy floral silk dress sliced to reveal a slither of skin at the waist (look 30). Subtly sexy.

I spy: Tiers of dramatic ruffles and frills as the next big trend for spring/summer 2016 — get ready to embrace it.

Buro loves: The metal chain body jewellery worn in two versions: Oversized and delicate. It's best worn over a sleeveless coat and paired with a single shoulder duster earring à la look 18.
