Dior Men does Tokyo: Kim Jones merges culture past and present in his pre-fall 2019 runway show
Dior Homme is no more, long live Dior Men. Against the backdrop of a giant (female) robotic sculpture by artist Hajime Sorayama, Kim Jones sent out a collection that layered the house's Gold Age designs upon traditional Japanese costume upon modern Japanese streetwear upon the designer's own menswear signatures (whew! That was a mouthful). Sharp-edged, romantic, couture-level and contemporary all at once, the show was a riveting exploration of Dior's long-running love affair with Japonisme.
