Best show from LFW SS17 Day 5: Marques'Almeida

London Fashion Week

Wrapping up London Fashion Week SS17, Marques'Almeida showcased louche streetwear complemented with sophisticated touches of brocade

The collection: As streetwear continues its unhindered ascension into all things high fashion, Brit designers Paulo Almeida and Marta Marques (winners of the 2015 LVMH Prize) picked up on the prevailing dishevelled aesthetic, and applied it to leg of mutton sleeves (trend alert: see also Burberry, J.W. Anderson and Simone Rocha) on T-shirts, shirts and jumpsuits (for example, looks 1, 26 and 41); paraded black-and-white striped tops with elongated sleeves (the style du jour courtesy of Vetements — for example, looks 21, 35 and 37); and opted for exaggerated silhouettes for their iconic frayed denims (see looks 4 and 32). Part punk, part creative vixen, but ultimately, a rebel on the rise.

Favourite looks: The duo's signature denim exits, and the those rich brocade ensembles for a sophisticated accent to an otherwise louche collection. If we had to narrow it down to one? That double-denim hit of a bell-sleeve tailored jean jacket paired with a matching trouser sporting gathered ruffle hems in look 6 (see cover image above).

Buro loves:
Those laceups with frill-neck-lizard-esque ruffled leather vamps in silver and white — for example, looks 4 and 30. Yes.
