Prada unveils performance garments you'd be proud to stunt
Future grail
There are but a few who truly straddle the two worlds of technical wear and fashion. Off the top of our head: Moncler, ACRONYM and Stone Island. Even Prada's Linea Rossa range — birthed in 1997, about a decade after the house started dabbling in sportswear and their now iconic waterproof nylon fabric — wouldn't be able to compare. Until now.
Linea Rossa reinvented had its first non-descript outing on the men's fall 2018 runway, tucked amidst the revival of hit prints from previous seasons; a collaboration range with product designers and architects; and the overarching industrial theme floated by ID badges turned cool accessories in the hands of Miuccia. A buffet really, as a Prada collection always is — akin to going through a bag of pick 'n' mix (without the orange-flavoured bits) with every morsel as good as the last. Linea Rossa in particular a tough-to-nail recipe of high perfomance gear fronting a stylish veneer.
Prepped to take on the outdoors, the anoraks, gilets and trousers in the season's Day-Glo palette are served up in fabrics that regulate temperature, are water-repellent, abrasion resistant and, now cut lighter than ever. It also sees an upgraded version of Prada's Tela Tecnica fabric (routinely used for performance wear and ready-to-wear alike) in the spotlight, now boasting windproof and waterproof capabilities with breathability tacked on. The fabrics are then transformed into the all-new Linea Rossa garments without a single stitch — instead, using a heat technique for bonding. Browse above.
Available at Prada boutiques and online from September 2018.
