Le Smoking lives on

Lebanese designer Racil Chalhoub is all about the fairer sex wearing the pants

We've been posed this query one too many times: Where can a lady get her hands on a tuxedo?

Short of seeking out your local tailor (of which many hone their craft cutting suits for men and hence, are less familiar with the female form) or hitting up high street chains, the options are few and far between. Until Racil — the London-based label committed to tailoring for women — came along.

The brand's heroine is the tuxedo, a signature cultivated by founder and designer Racil Chalhoub's buying experience in Beirut, which alerted her to a niche in the ready-to-wear market. Having inherited her grandmother's affinity for vibrant shades, she serves up the sleek, rakish allure known to the traditional Le Smoking, but holds back on its customary inky hue.

Racil's recent exclusive collection for MATCHESFASHION.COM is exemplary of this. "I believe one shouldn't be scared of mixing colours together," said Chalhoub of her pastel-hued edit. "[The] different colourways are mostly inspired by the sunrise and sunset."
