Best dressed female villains of our time: from Cruella de Vil and Joker, to Blair Waldorf
On August 25, Disney released the first look at Emma Stone as Cruella de Vil in the prequel film, Cruella. At first glance, one may think the picture was ripped out of a fashion magazine. Stone's two-tone hairdo and goth-punk ensemble accessorised with Dalmatians got us thinking about other fashionable baddies that came before her. Here are seven villains of the 2000s who were/are notoriously stylish.
1. Cruella de Vil, Cruella (2021)
There is no doubt that 101 Dalmatians' Cruella is the most stylish villain of all time. So stylish that she's got a movie of her own starring Emma Stone as the young de Vil. Set to hit theatres on 28 May 2021, we'll be following social media closely for more outfit reveals.
2. Miranda Priestly, The Devil Wears Prada
Hands down the most fashionable villain, Miranda Priestly will teach you how to dress devilishly high fashion in under two hours.
3. Blair Waldorf, Gossip Girl
Though Gossip Girl is set to return with a spinoff series, may we remind you of the Upper East Side's OG b*tch. If there is anything we learned from the Queen B, it's how to rock a headband — spring/summer 2019's accessory du jour.
4. Cheryl Blossom, Riverdale
Nothing says vixen more than fiery red ensembles — Blossom's signature look finished with an unapologetically bright red lip. We like her most when she dropped the prep school get-up for bad girl duds by way of a South Side Serpents moto jacket, you guessed it, in red.
5. Villanelle, Killing Eve
If your dress ups are in need of inspiration, look no further than Villanelle. Unlike other antagonists who have signature (and predictable) dress codes, Villanelle's killer outfits change according to her assignments — pun intended.
6. Joker, Joker
One doesn't discuss villains without the Joker. Set to hit the screens in October, the titular character, fronted by Joaquin Phoenix, takes colour blocking up a notch with a red, yellow and green retro suit — reminiscent of the original Clown Prince of Crime played by Cesar Romero.
7. Jafar, Aladdin
Arguably the hottest villain of this year, the vizier's costume was opulent and intricate as expected, and embellished with hardware like chainmail detailing on the robe. But let's face it — Marwan Kenzari's had a lot to do with Jafar's sizzle.
