Trendy nostalgic strappy sandals a la Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera and every female celeb circa '90s will make your OOTD
All tied up
The year was 1999. Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera and Mila Kunis were teenagers working the red carpet like seasoned pros. Where were we? In our beds, pouring through Smash Hits (tell us you read those tacky pop music magazines too) and Seventeen after school as geeky tweens, praying for age to come sooner so we could start to look like our favourite Mickey Mouse crooner. Some 20 years later, we're still trying.
Despite the awkward finger-locking poses and scarves worn ironically off the shoulder, they first brought to limelight the It shoe of 2018 — strappy sandals. Whether worn with the '90s staple crochet cover-ups, bubble skirts or "going out" tops, strappy sandals (especially those by Manolo Blahnik) lent that little bit of grown up sparkle that always seemed a tad advanced for their age. It was the lip liner of fashion. Yet somehow, it worked.
So much so that shoe designers the likes of By Far and I Am Intentionally Blank are blowing the dust off the almost forgotten shoe fad with their own pared back monochrome renditions, while seasoned names such as Alexandre Birman and Miu Miu are resuscitating the magic with the help of a well-placed pearls and exotic skins on the silhouette du jour.
